The long awaited sequel to Bus Boy (not really) . . . Waitress.
Waitress stars Keri Russell who plays a woman with hardly any money, good friends and a decent job at a small diner as a waitress and a pie baker. The problem is, she’s trapped in a horrible marriage to a control freak of a husband. Her plan is to stash enough money to enable her to run away. All that changes when she finds out she’s pregnant. Now she feels even more trapped. In an unlikely twist, she begins an affair with her doctor, played by Nathan Fillion, and is befriended by the grumpy old man who owns the diner, played by Andy Griffith. Even when she thinks she’s figured out exactly what she wants, fate has a way of setting things straight.
Waitress has a certain amount of charm. The story is simple but oddly inspirational, there’s a handful of fairly funny scenes, and the characters are all likable. Keri Russell is cute, Nathan Fillion is skilled in comedy, and it’s heartwarming to see Andy Griffith stretching himself as an actor at age 80. There’s little action and the dark comedy feel diffuses some of the drama, so it’s a total chick flick, but a good one! |
